“In her Venus project, Italian artist Anna Utopia Giordano gives the goddess of love a Photoshop makeover. She takes famous paintings of Venus and slims bellies (and increases busts) to fit today’s standards of beauty.” -A Cup of Jo
I prefer the original.
I prefer the original, too. Without context and a clear intent from Anna Utopia Giordana, this is very discouraging. No one should even touch the classics like this without a damn good reason.
If she was doing this to start a conversation about the drastic changes in what is “appealing” to society in current times, then she should have made that crystal clear. But I’m walking away from this thinking that maybe she did it to make things “nicer to look at.” As the quote says, to “fit today’s standards of beauty.”
How about this, Miss Utopia, I’ll “fit” my fucking fist into your face.
